Stark County Court Records
Stark County court records are accessible through one of the most advanced systems in Ohio. The county runs the Criminal Justice Information System, known as CJIS, which merges data from four separate courts into a single searchable database. That means you can look up records from the Court of Common Pleas and three municipal courts all in one place. The Clerk of Courts is Lynn M. Todaro, with offices at 115 Central Plaza North, Suite 101, Canton, OH 44702. Stark County has about 374,000 residents, making it one of the larger counties in the state.
Stark County Court Records Overview
Stark County CJIS Court Records System
The Stark County Criminal Justice Information System is what sets this county apart from most others in Ohio. The Stark County judicial system includes the Court of Common Pleas and three independent municipal courts. Each court has its own elected clerk and its own database. The CJIS project brought all of these together. It created an independent website for each court, plus a fifth site that merges data from all courts of record into one database.
With CJIS, you can search across all Stark County courts in a single query. Enter a name and the system checks the Common Pleas Court, Canton Municipal Court, Massillon Municipal Court, and Alliance Municipal Court all at once. You can also search by case number, date range, or cause of action. The system lets you filter by role too, whether someone was a defendant, plaintiff, attorney, or guardian.
This kind of merged search is rare in Ohio. Most counties make you check each court separately. Stark County's approach saves time and gives you a more complete picture of someone's court history in the county.

Stark County Court of Common Pleas
The Stark County Court of Common Pleas handles felony criminal cases, civil lawsuits over $15,000, and domestic relations matters. This is the main trial court in the county and generates the largest volume of case records. The Common Pleas Court also has a Domestic Relations Division that handles divorce, custody, and support cases separately.
Criminal records show indictments, plea entries, trial proceedings, sentencing orders, and appeals. Civil records track lawsuits from complaint to judgment. Domestic relations files cover divorce petitions, parenting plans, and support orders. All of these are accessible through the CJIS system or at the Clerk's office in person.
The Domestic Relations Division is at the same address as the main Clerk's office. Divorce records are maintained by this division, and the phone number is (330) 451-7380. Marriage records are kept separately at the Stark County Probate Court at 110 Central Plaza South, Canton, OH 44702.

Stark County has three municipal courts, each with its own clerk and database. The Canton Municipal Court covers the city of Canton. The Massillon Municipal Court and Alliance Municipal Court serve their respective areas. Each handles misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, and civil claims up to $15,000.
Thanks to the CJIS system, you can search all three municipal courts plus the Common Pleas Court from one interface. This is a major advantage over counties where you have to check each court one at a time.
- Canton Municipal Court for Canton city cases
- Massillon Municipal Court for Massillon area cases
- Alliance Municipal Court for Alliance area cases
- Court of Common Pleas for felonies and large civil cases
