Vinton County and the Clerk of Courts are not liable for damages that come from using the online tool. It is a convenience, not a replacement for the official court file.

Note: CourtView only shows records from January 1, 1998 forward; for older Vinton County court records, contact the Clerk at 740-596-3001.

Ohio courts follow retention schedules set by the Supreme Court of Ohio through the Rules of Superintendence. Rule 26 sets the minimum time courts must keep different types of records. The docket and journal stay for 25 years. Civil case files get two years. Criminal misdemeanor files last 50 years. OVI case files also stay for 50 years. Minor misdemeanors get five years.

The Vinton County Clerk must post the current retention schedule where the public can see it. If you need older records, they may still exist even if they are past the minimum retention period. Courts can keep records longer than required. But there is no guarantee.
